Just getting into reloading and wanted to know if i could get any advice or maybe a good recipe for a .308 round running an ar. May be hard but would like to push my ar over 1000yds with a good hard hitting round. Any advice besides getting a bolt gun would be great.

Re: ar- .308 recipe?

I just purchased the remington 700 SPS in a 308. For a factory rifle and for the price is great. I just went out today, and with factory loads federal gold match loaded with 168 match kings I shot 1/2 groups at 100 yards. I am waiting for my stock I ordered and my dies, I should get way better than that. Then I think I am going to have it cryo. frozen. I have a # for redhawk rifles in CO. they build 1000.00 customs, that shoot 1/4" at 100 yards. As far as loads go, I have not been able to work up any loads yet. I am sure you will get some replys here shortly.

Re: ar- .308 recipe?

jd, how long is your barrel?
1000 yards your gonna have to push a 155 Palma 2750+ or a 175 SMK above 2600+. While some may push them faster your bolt and carier group may suffer. You would be wise to aquire a hydrolic buffer system to minimize the wear and tear you'll see with hotter loads. I ran a DPMS LR308 with a 24" to 800 a couple times with the 175's and felt I was running out of gas and getting handeled by the wind. 600 and in was much better. My logbook went with the rifle three years ago.

Good luck

jd, if you can get your hands on any IMI match or LC match they are the toughest and will last the longest.

BTW, very nice finnish on your rifle
