After years of messing with simple builds, I am ready to attempt to barrel an upper etc. Any suggestions for quality tools to make the job easier? I have looked at the Wheeler kits, but I don't need another torque wrench etc.

Good, quality suggestions from above... a decent bench vise as well... even if it is just mounted on a "Black & Decker workmate" type table will save quite a bit of effort.
While not specific to your to your tools query ... these videos helped me quite bit.
I will say, Wheeler tools, while helpful... may not always be quite the quality I would prefer to buy. IE, buy good tools once, and they will last a lifetime.
