I know this should probably be asked in the AR15.com forum, but I like this one better. What difference does it make to use a carbine buffer in a rifle or the other way around? What is the difference in the carbine and rifle buffer springs? Is one longer or stronger than the other?

Rifle buffer and tube are longer than the carbine buffer and tube. They are not interchangable from what I understand..you have a carbine tube you use a carbine buffer and vice versa.

Can't help much re: the question...
I highly recommend the m4carbine.net forums for AR info -- I think of it as the equivalent of the Hide for carbine/AR related stuff.
