I have a barrel but no bolt. How do I head space? Just keep trying different bolts or what?

Yup. That said, I've built a few frankenguns and not had issues using whatever bolt was handy. Checked, of course.

Do you have go/nogo's to check? I mean, it's really not a huge deal with AR's having a milspec and all, but it never hurts to find out for sure.

Yes I have gauges. In an ar is tighter bolt lock up better as far as accuracey goes or does it matter?

I don't think it matters unless you're trying for a chamber that is cut for a specific bullet loaded to a specific length.

Thanks. I'm kinda new to the ar thing so any info helps tremendously. I'm building a Grendel and want it to be as accurate as I can make it. Any additional information will be much appreciated! Thanks again guys

Search for "Hellbender's Accurate AR Guide" there are a lot of tricks. However unless it's defective the rifle *will* be more accurate than you are. Just make sure everything is assembled within spec and then go about making up a good handload and learning good shooting technique. There's tons of info on this site about how to shoot a gas gun properly as well as load development.
