Looking at building a new AR10 in 6.5CM. Likely using SLR receivers with their handguard. Any other recommendations for receivers? My biggest question is which barrel? Going to be a 16” probably in mid length or maybe rifle. I’m torn between going with a Craddock RTR or a Xcaliber…. Anyone have experience with either of those brands? I noticed Xcaliber has a 1moa guarantee with a headspaced bolt.

I've built a 6.5CM off an SLR set. Nothing wrong with them other than all the CNC billet stuff is pretty unnecessary. I would strongly suggest an LMT with the 15.3" mono upper or buying a used SP-10 and building off that so you can get a monolithic or semi-monolithic upper. But if you're set on SLR, it'll work.

These days it's really hard for me to buy a non-custom large frame precision oriented AR barrel. If I wasn't buying a blank and having someone I trust turning the barrel I would have to default to Proof just because they have the gas systems figured out if nothing else. I have one RTR barrel and it would seem like Craddock has as well so given the two choices I would do the RTR. And I'd probably do an intermediate length. No way in hell a mid length for a high pressure cartridge in 16".

Do you have any creedmoors in 16”? I noticed most ppl offer them in mid and rifle length

I do not, I only have one 16" large frame and it's a 308 and I specifically avoided midlength and bought a barrel because it was an intermediate length. It is gassed well and is smooth, but I wish it just shot a little better. It's 1 to 1.5moa gun. Part of the reason I have started to avoid off the shelf large frame barrels. The ideal mix of characteristics become really restrictive. Additionally you see people on here talking about issues with midlength gas systems and asking for advice when their gun is tearing up brass. A person could even argue that midlength on a 16" 223 AR tends to be harsh; in comparison to intermediate lengths. It's like the carbine vs midlength debate for 12.5's and the hybrid has lengths manufacturers have come out with specifically for 12.5" barrels.

And then on top of all that, are you planning on running it braked, suppressed, or do you have ideas of 50/50 mix? I think best case scenario a midlength functions but is polarizing. Whereas an intermediate length will provide a little flexibility in the operating system.

Probably unsuppressed. But I had planned on using an adjustable gas black.

A lot of AGBs are adjustable until they get caked in carbon, and then they're tuned gas blocks. The only gas blocks that seem to be widely accepted as continuously adjustable in practical enough manner to be swapping between suppressed and unsuppressed somewhat regularly are the rifle speed variants.
