In my Grey Ghost I have a 16” barrel that is only accurate with 168&175gr bullets. Thinking of doing a barrel swap but what length would you recommend? 18” or 20” barrel. Avg velocity out of 16” barrel is 2476fps.

I have a 1:9 twist rate. I’d like to be able to shoot 150gr at matches instead of the heavier grain options. And yes the MV I’d like to see closer to 2700fps.

The only reason to buy longer than a 16” 308 barrel would be to get rifle length gas. Since there are 16” rlg barrels, there’s no need to go longer.

If you’re shooting matches for fun, run what you have. If you’re trying to win matches, go 6 or 6.5 Creedmoor.

If you just need to swap go at least 20”. But honestly I would run what you have. I wanted a lighter 308 ar build for hunting to run suppressed torn between 16 or 20, ran the numbers and a 20” only gains me approximately 50 yards more before going transonic over a 16” barrel. Guess which way I went on this build, 16”.

FYI, my 20” only shoots 168’s at 2550 fps.

Nice rifle btw, that’s definitely from when Mega was making GGP’s sets. Solid
