ar15 help

Re: ar15 help

It is normal and the floating FP can cause a "slam fire" which is why you should always be prepared for an accidental discharge upon chambering a live round.
I've seen it happen a few times with ARs.

No primers are designed to, or are supposed to slamfire in this way, but any primer may.
If you handload, seat the primers all the way into the pocket to abate this.

Always be ready for an AD anytime you chamber live ammunition in any firearm.
Think about where an AD should go and chamber with the muzzle pointed that way.

If you find it difficult to extract a live round with the charging handle then you may have a headspace or ammunition issue.

Re: ar15 help

Military rifles (i.e. Garand, M14) had problems early on with their cartriges slam firing. To solve this the military went to "hard" primers. A "hard" primer is basically just made to withstand a firing pin hitting it with the chambering. Military loads so have no problem. I have several AR's and M1A's and have never had a slam fire. It is a possibility though so be aware. My best advice is don't chamber your round until ready to pull the trigger. And once you do chamber the round make sure to fire it. Hope this helps out
