Are the "Factory Fresh" Remington action like you would get on a build from GAP the same as the ones from the big box stores? It just seems that the metal is different in a way. Might be the coating I don't know. I know when I go and look for used guns the older actions seem like they have better metal than some of the newer SPS style rifles like from Acadamy or Wal-mart.

Ill take a stab at your question I cant speak for GAP but I would guess by factory fresh they mean new unaltered, the same as you would get from the big box store. I personally like the older actions better myself I think the finish, trigger and firing pin assembly were a little nicer, I dont think you will see difference in accuracy between a new or old action if properly prepared and barreled.Hope this helps

Re: Are "Facorty Fresh" Remingtion Action the same as.

I would think that an action from GAP or the other respected builders is going to be thoroughly guaged and blueprinted, and tehrefore be of far superior desirability over a 'factory fresh' action. Factory fresh generally means something subject to factory quality control, and from Remmy, I woudn't be expecting a perfectly spec'd gem. If I were to be buying a factory action, it would be one of the 'action only' models from Savage. Click 'firearms', 'browse models', then 'action only'.

From the GAP site
"G. A. Precision Base Rifle is built around a brand new factory fresh Remington 700 BDL action."
I think this statement suggests that the actions they use in thier builds are new unaltered Remmy actions the same as the ones that are avilable on the market today in current production rifles.
I never meant to suggest that the actions did not undergo a truing process before use in thier custom rifles

I think it means exactly what it says. I'm going to guess that GAP has enough of a reputation within the industry that George can get brand new actions (& only the actions)direct from Remington. This would be preferable to buying a complete rifle to start with & having to remove everything from it to blueprint it & add the premium barrel, scope mount & stock etc.

In the end, the action would be completely blueprinted regardless of if it was removed from a complete rifle, (used or new) or had never had a barrel screwed to it.

Thats what I meant by Factory Fresh..."straight from Remington". It was just that even on a rifle like a Fancy Blued CDL, or a Stainless Mountian Rifle that the quality of the metal seems better than on a sps. Also I Die Cast metal for a living and quality control requires X-Raying of the metal parts for Porosity of the metal and it has to meet the requirments. Just seems like the sps metal is of less quality..not saying it is and I am shure there has been many accurate rifles made out of sps actions. Anyways no big deal just asking.

Re: Are "Facorty Fresh" Remingtion Action the same as.

the 'cheap' sps 'feel' is just that theyre bead blasted and blued. after running the bolt on one of these a few hundred times and it wears in, they feel just like an 'old' blued CDL.

The SPS finish is prone to rust, but thats what gunkote, duracoat, etc. is for.

Brownell sells factory fresh 700 actions in .223,.308 bolt face. Last I seen was around $450 each.

Not bad. about what the local pawn guys are selling them for. Some are a little less but after tax about the same.

Re: Are "Facorty Fresh" Remingtion Action the same as.

The advantage with the pawn or used at the gun shop is that you get the whole rifle and not just the receiver and bolt.
