Rifle Scopes Are US Optics levels reliable?

Re: Are US Optics levels reliable?

There are a couple problems I have with the design of the folding anti cant device. Problem one is the O-ring, I understand why it was used, but unless all the tension is taken up and I get a metal to metal contact, the true level indication is hit and miss. Problem two is partially related to problem one, when you fold the device closed, it self tightens, when you open it the opposite occurs. If the second roblem worked opposite, it would be a benefit not a problem, you would need to use a left hand threaded screw to accomplish this. Bottom line, make sure the pivot screw is tight when using the device. It only takes 1 half way decent hit to bend things slightly and get everything out of wack. If your capenters level has proven trust worthy in the past, it is probably telling you the truth.

Re: Are US Optics levels reliable?

My fixed models seem to "tip" a bit when tightened down. Since I use the level while shooting I mount the scope to agree with the level, therefore it tracks true (the teeny tiny bit of cant induced won't show up in the tracking at the distances I shoot-usually 700yds and in).

I noticed this and it bugs me as well, but oh well.

Re: Are US Optics levels reliable?

It all depends on how accurate the levels is that you are checking it side X side with. The vials that are in our levels are a 1 minute vial, most all of the contractors levels are much more accurate.

Also, as phreakmode said above, if you don't have the thumbscrew tightened all the way on the swivel model, there will be some variance.

I wouldn't suggest using two different levels like you are doing to mount the scope, use the same one on the base as you woould with the top of the scope.
