Not a problem if you suck at your own gun club one match. But, if you’re paying hundreds of dollars in match fees, traveling, staying in hotels, eating out and spending your hard earned money to shoot at a high level being forked because of weather/visibility is not really an option. If you add up all the money to compete at the amateur level suddenly a couple of grand for a scope that will do it seems very reasonable.
It’s like the strokes making fun of me for shooting a $50 Iron Will broad head on a Gold Tip arrow. If you saw what I spend to go elk hunting then the best bow, arrow, and the best possible broad head I can buy really ain’t shit. If you’re lucky to get one pull back for two weeks of suffering it’s small ball, and worth every penny.
If you’re shooting at targets behind your house don’t bother and buy your shit at Bass Pro.
