Re: Armalite AR-10 Break-in
If you bought it used, you may already be past a break in period. I have noticed that when I followed a break in routine, the barrel fouls at a very slow rate compared to when I haven't done a break in. My theory on this is that while you are polishing the throat with the first hundred or so rounds, you are creating more copper dust that gets deposited in the bore. I don't think it matters if shoot one or one hundred rounds and clean; just do a thorough bore cleaning using a quality bore solvent. I would do one patch with solvent, let sit a couple minutes followed by one dry patch; repeat this proses until the patches are coming out clean. After this first really good cleaning, you should be able to go a couple hundred rounds without the bore fouling much.
