Armalite lower/DPMS upper?

Re: Armalite lower/DPMS upper?

No go.
As there is no universal 308-cal AR blueprint, everyone does their own thing. Armalite, DPMS, and Rock River all make their own thing - and none works with the other.
I prefer Armalites, opinions vary. I have noted more quality issues with DPMS than Armalite (going back quite a few years, admittedly.) Rock River is fairly new to the 308 party, and their stuff isn't as mainstream yet. But I hear good things.

There's a dozen plus manufacturers that use the DPMS/SR-25 style for their receivers. There's others that use the AR-10; not as many but the list is growing and distinguished. The aftermarket industry is alive and growing fast, producing parts for both types of platforms. Rock River is definitely on the small side of the market share, but there's still a growing availability of compatible parts being made for their platform.

Really though, why does there need to be one set standard? Savage doesn't sync with Remington and Remington doesn't sync with Sako, but the bolt rifle industry doesn't suffer because of it. Wanting all the large frame ARs to be like the AR-15 platform when there's no milspec in the first place is like asking for the auto industry to make all pickup trucks to use the same parts. It's unreasonable and doesn't give any benefit to the companies that invested a lot of time and money into their original design. Patents aren't cheap and it costs even more to pursue a company that steals your designs and ideas.

Each type of large frame AR has its own attributes and benefits, and it's all working just fine for me and many other semi auto shooters. Pick one style and stick with it, but do your research before you're stuck with something that doesn't work for you.
