Hello, I just picked up my SASS on monday and plan on loading this weekend. I am looking for suggestions on where to start. If you have one of these rifles I would appreciate any info on what it prefers to eat.

Thank you,
Chris

I don't think 2550fps is hammerin my gun...just sayin... and all Armalite Super SASS rifles come with adj gas blocks, so looks like you'll be good 2 go.

Re: Armalite SASS load questions

44.5 varget in LC brass is pretty brave, the LC stuff I've been using is already compressed at 43 w/178amax. How many loads you get out of it?

What parts are getting hammered? There's just a tube there, no op rod etc like an M1A.

I wasn't trying to step on your dick or anything, just wondering what parts would be affected.

I always thought it was designed around using the 762 ammo that was loaded with ballc2, which is a little slower than 4895.

I've used everything from 2230 to 4350 and never had any functioning problems, and my experience has been that slower powders are generally easier on brass in relation to how much muzzle velocity I can get. Varget has been the easiest especially with heavier bullets, it gives me the best velocities before I start to notice pressure signs on my cases. FWIW I use a carrier weight, and it does help a bit.

Re: Armalite SASS load questions

Thank you for the good replies. I use a lot if IMR 4895 and may stay with that. I had read a little about gas guns and powder but have not done enough research speak on the subject. I have enjoyed reading the posts.

haven't had any probs with my LC and 44.5 grains, may be a little compressed, but nothin like my 556 loads.
