okay someone got my daughter a long term loaner for her to use for her first hunting rifle. Its the savage 11 in .243 with DBM. it has the black plastic stock. we can do what ever we want, but the origanal stock as to stay intact. So I was hoping one of you gun smiths out there did a build off one of these and migth have one sitting in a corner we could cut up? I already did a search and got a good idea on how to shorten the length of pull, im mathcing her cricket 12". I just need a doner stock for her first rifle.. I have looked on line boyd, stocky, ... all are blind mag stocks? anyway thats what I need? Any help or ideas would be great.. let me know what you would need for it plus shipping.

Re: asking the gunsmiths first

you might be able to find a used one over on savageshooters.com that is already cut for the dbm. You can also take a blind mag and modifiy it for a dbm.

Bubb,

As scythefwd said, you can get bottom metal to make it a DBM. Savage sells that on their website. It's how I got mine. It's a straight across change-over.
They might even have a composite youth stock you could purchase.

If you can handle tools it isn't all that hard to inlet the bottom of a wood stock for bottom metal. Any over-runs can be filled with epoxy or what ever bedding material you choose.

What you don't want to do is start cutting on a composite stock. They are basically a plastic shell formed by filler. Unless you have the ability to melt and form plastic, that stock is now ruined. That goes for bottom of stock as well as buttstock.

Well what I gathered is will cutting cut slow not to build heat, use a saw with high teeth per inch for smooth cut. Fill with foam as a block then finish with epoxy a fit piece of wood. Reattach recoil pad grind to fit??
