Now that I have the RPR in .308 Win, I'm working on finding the right scope for it. I was zeroing in on a Vortex Viper HST, but I just received an offer for an Athlon ARES BTR APRS5 FFP scope, set up and including flip cap covers. It's a pretty nice price for it.

Can anyone comment on these Athlon ARES scopes or have any reviews?

    Thanks much. :)

I have 3 of Ares BTR and they are a great scope for the price. Glass is more than acceptable and have had no problems. Have a couple of Leupold MK5's and the Athlon is not in the same class but does compete. If you have a good deal on the Athlon I would buy it if it fits the budget today. Can move to better glass in the future if you feel the need and the Athlon will find a new home on a different stick.

Love my Ares BTR. Currently lives on a suppressed win mag, and enjoys every moment of it. It replaced a Vortex on that particular rifle, and I'm happy to say, its been a much clearer view.

There are lots of reviews on the Ares BTR.
I wasn't impressed with the 2.5-15 Ares I used vs the PST Gen 2 but I'd pick the Ares over the HST by a considerable margin.

The Ares is FFP and the HST is SFP which is something to consider but the eyebox and glass on the HST leave a lot to be desired and there are much better options available these days.

I have an ares btr and would rank it similarly to a vortex pst. I also have a vortex amg and a zco—both are certainly better than the ares but that’s expected when the cost difference. The ares does everything the big dollar scopes do, the glass just isn’t quite as clear and the turrets don’t have quite as sold a feel. Generally for under $1k I think it’s really hard to beat the athlon options. Between $1k-$2k Vortex rules, and above $3k zco is my favorite.
