I have 2 Athlon Argos 6x24x50 scopes. They track well and the glass is decent. But both have had to go back for warranty work because on both the side focus stopped working. Both scopes were replaced with a new unit. Has anyone else had issues with their Argos? I need to buy new scope for my ruger predator. My budget is $350 for the new scope but have had issues with the Argos has me looking for a replacement. Should I take a chance on a third Argos or just buy a swfa ss 10x42?

I’ve had an Argos in one of my .308 rifles for quite some time with no issues. However I’m pretty tame with my gear.
How rough are you with your rigs and gear?

The rifles go from safe to padded case, then from case to bench, the from bench to case to safe :) I'm not rough on my bolt guns.

The ARs tho get rand hard and fast.

My argos has been ok. I'm not super gentle with it. But you have to rememebr, it's a $300 optic. It's not going to be as durable as a higher end piece of equipment. As long as they keep fixing it... run it.

I've noticed that mine is a bitch to focus in the higher mag range while doing load development. I'm upgrading to a razor gen2 soon, so the argos will be a backup

Other than some unit to unit variance mine have been working great. I sold my SWFA's except for one which is going away soon.

I'd step up to the Midas TAC line personally, it's more like going up 3 steps in quality than it is 2.

i sold my argos btr after it had the same issues and switched to fixed power swfa's they are bullet proof and the glass is much clearer and crisper than the argos ever was. i wouldnt hesitate as long as you will be fine without the variable magnification

I'm running an Athlon Argos BTR 10-40X56 and love it. No problems, tracks like a rock star and the glass is way better than anything in its price class. I did have a problem with sticky focus but it was because I had mounted the scope with 20 MOA rail and not properly tightened the rear screws. End result is I had to futz with elevation (maxed it out to the negative) which was binding the focus.

Luckily I did not force things and no permanent damage was done. Fixed the screw/elevation issue and have been running the shit out of the scope. No problems yet. I'm an Athlon Whore for Life unless something drastic happens. I have worked a few scopes and bang for the $ Athlon has the others beat.

Literally, I'd have to spend 2X more than my Athlon to get more performance.
