So I know this has been asked before, but any previous threads I find comparing these two scopes involves a lot of .22s. I’m trying to decide which scope I should go with. No dealers locally that carry them so I have to order sight unseen. I’m trying to decide between the Midas tac or the ares etr. For now it’s going on a ar platform in 6.5cm but it’s not a match rifle by any means. The Midas seems perfect for this rifle, but I’m really tempted to get the ares etr and one day move it to a tikka t3x tac a1. For the ar10, it’s going to be used for hunting and the once in a blue moon long distance shots around 1000 yards. More common distance is going to be up to 300 yards on a bench. It’s going to be in Moa. I do want to use the ar10 for hunting too and know it’ll be heavy.

I know the main differences between the two scopes are the tube size, Ed glass, and adjustment range. Do you guys think that going with the etr is work the extra $400? Would you say either scope is between in glass quality vs the viper pst gen ii s?

Thanks!

The Midas TAC is a great scope for the price. I have the 4-16 in a 6.5CM gas gun and it does everything I want it to. I’d say it’s comparable to the PSTII for clarity but the ETR is noticeably better; the latter two also have illumination which I like.

You really can’t go wrong with either, but you asked the 1/3 cost version of the question “do you want a Razor Gen II or a TT525P” in a way that implies they’re both in the budget. Since you mention you don’t hunt that often I wouldn’t go with the weight savings at the expense of illumination and clarity.

As an alternative, if this isn’t an immediate need, the Optika 6 is on the verge of being released and looks like it could be very interesting at a price point that’s right in between. However, the non-BDC reticles are in MRAD.

Yeah I looked at the optikas but couldn’t find a reticle I liked. The have a 6.5cm reticle but I’d prefer Moa.

The budget is kind of relative. It’s not an expensive or top of the line ar10, though one day I may try to change out the barrel and make other changes to improve accuracy. My original budget was right around the Midas tac. However, after seeing some opinions on the ares etr I thought that I might just spend the extra cash on it and I could always move it to a dedicated bolt gun in the future. Just not sure if the etr is worth expanding the budget, or just get the right scope for this gun and worry about a better scope when I get a precision bolt gun.
