I see some places with the Atlas 8 with the clamp on option. I do not see any with the arms mount. I have had my order for a bit but I want one now!! Any options to convert the clamp on model to a quick detach model?

Thanks,

Did you get the LT-171? I have not found a good picture of the clamp on and how it would mount to the Atlas.

Re: Atlas 8 clamp on options for QD mount?

I got an Atlas bipod that had the American Defense throw lever mount. I did not like the A.D. mount at all. I replaced it with a LaRue LT-171 throw lever mount and love it. That is the best combination. Too bad the Atlas cannot be ordered with the LaRue mount on it as an option.

Robe, thanks for sharing your opinion, I'm always interested in hearing the good, bad and ugly. While the lever mount portion is not our area of expertise, may I ask what specifically you did not like about the ADM?

I'm really happy with them as they provide tooless adjustments and a long clamping interface surface so the cam does not contact the rail. In fact it was our first choice but at the time they did not make the 17S size. And how we found out they had started making them was due to a government order, a double treat!

Anyhow, I'd like to hear what you don't like about them.

edited to add, we'll refund your money on the ADM if you bought it from us.

Robe...

I have LaRue, AD, and ARMS and like the AD by far the best.

The AD is adjustable for varying pic rail width, a full width clamping plate, AND a locking lever.

The LaRue marrs the rail badly, the ARMS has the little floppy plate that clamps (that is a pain).

What didn't you like about the AD mount?

EDIT: Looks like Kasey beat me to the question!

Re: Atlas 8 clamp on options for QD mount?

It is mainly just my personal preference of the Larue throw lever mount over the ADM. I feel that the Larue is easier to undo and attach to a rail. I am a long time user of Larue products and a loyal fan.
The Larue LT-171 mount does need an open ended wrench to adjust the throw lever tension because there is not enough clearance to use the Larue wrench that comes with the Larue mount. I am ok with that.
The ADM mount works as it comes on the bipod. I just prefer Larue.

Re: Atlas 8 clamp on options for QD mount?

I can add some more. I like Larue's locking feature better. I don't like having to push in on the locking button and pull out on the lever to open the clamp. I agree that ARMS is the worst of the three. I have had more success swapping a Larue mount than an ADM from one rail to another and have sufficient tension to use it.
kasey- I appreciate your offer to refund the cost of the ADM. I will call and ask about that when I order another bipod.
