Ok, I was thinking that it provided some protection. But since it doesnt I dont think I will waste my time.

To acheive a camo job like the one you posted up would require a base of tan, then the OD green, then the black.

Your rifle shows more green than any of the other colors... Needs a bit more tan imo, but still looks like a great stick nonetheless.

ummmm, no! You hit the tan first, cover the parts you want to keep tan, you hit the black 2nd, cover what you want to keep black, then you hit the green last, what ever is uncovered will be green. The OP did it right.

Yes, when you paint camo, always start with the color that you want the least amount of. Then apply stencils as needed. The more stencils you apply, the more of that color will show. The final color is the main color that the stock will be. I always use clear coat because it deadens any shiny areas if there are any, and it makes the colors blend into one another nicely. It also provides a first line of defense for your colors. Clear coat is not easy to apply successfully though. It takes a lot of practice to get it right. It goes on much quicker than the regular paint, so it can build up on you if you aren't paying attention, puddling and turning the area shiny. If you apply it from too far away, it will dry spray and will end up looking like chalk on your finish. You have to nail it just right with low pressure, keeping the brush very close to the stock, and move quicker than you normally would. Here is a GAP camo that I did for a friend of mine last week. First color was the marsh/cream, 2nd was tactical OD green/parker, and 3rd was coyote brown, which is the main color of the stock:

And here is a digi camo that I did for Hunter here on the 'hide a few weeks ago:

Re: Attempt at gap camo

There is nothing wrong with your camo job, you cant expect it to be perfect the first time around. This was my first attempt and it was far from perfect but i am still happy enough with it and thats all that matters. i had some bleeding of the colours so i had to add the highlight between them. When i tried to use black it was hard so i tried 2-3 diff colours until i gave up and left it a greyish colour. Next time i will make sure all the paint (duracost) i want to use is ready before i start the job.
