Cities across the country are dealing with an exploding problem of homelessness, but places like Los Angeles and San Francisco in California are among the worst.
In a shocking turn of events, an audit has found that California has spent $24 billion on homeless programs yet the problem persists and in some places is getting worse.
Would California have seen better improvements if they just gave this money directly to homeless people? Could the outcome have been any worse?
The Washington Examiner reports:
An audit in California found that the state spent $24 billion on homelessness over the past five years, but the state did not accurately track if the funds actually improved the problem.
The state has spent roughly $24 billion on initiatives to address homelessness, and the audit analyzed a combined $13.7 billion that went to five programs across the state from 2018-23. Despite the money being spent on 30 homelessness and housing programs, the audit found that California does not have reliable data to see why the situation did not improve in cities across the state.
“This report concludes that the state must do more to assess the cost-effectiveness of its homelessness programs,” State Auditor Grant Parks wrote in a letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) and lawmakers.
Democratic state Sen. Dave Cortese requested the audit in 2022 after he toured a homeless encampment that had been cleared. He said results from the audit found a “data desert,” which found a continuous cycle with many experiencing homelessness placed in interim housing. Of those people, only 13% found a permanent home and 44% became homeless again.
How many people working for the state became wealthy off of these homeless programs?
In it, state auditors found that homeless numbers jumped 53% in the last decade with an estimated 180,000 people unhoused in California, despite the spending of more than $20 billion to stop it. https://t.co/R19ozBFHcn

Some quick math on California homelessness. In 2015, 1 out of 336 people in California were homeless; in 2023, it was 1 in 215. This despite tens of billions of government spending at all levels. pic.twitter.com/17wlPVBTYm

This is a scandal. The state has spent billions on homelessness, and it's worse. Also, outcomes literally mean everything when it comes to homeless services, and unsurprisingly, they have no data. A full independent audit must be done. Now. @GavinNewsom https://t.co/RZUhruH9sK

Whatever the state has been doing, it’s clearly not working.

Totally this. Always follow the money.

Then there’s the idiot that thinks it would be better to just give the money to the homeless and they wouldn’t be homeless anymore. Apparently never heard of incentives before.

When the elites need cannon fodder as ground troops tp accomplish their grand plans, it’s always helpful to have a readily available source that’s doing nothing else.

A couple years ago there were thousands of homeless living in the riverbed that ran through the county where I worked. I was part of a team tasked with identifying our clients within that group. Spent the day talking to these people. 99% of them were from out of state. I noticed there were about 5 bicycles for every homeless person present and about 5 homeless people for every full set of teeth. Numerous NGOs were floating in and out, providing food, clothing, tents, and medical services. California has half the country’s homeless population. And Californians keep voting in the same idiots over and over and over again.

That 24 Billion found it's way into the pockets of well connected democrat's children, spouses, and cockholsters who were happy to take 6 figure jobs and 7 and 8 figure consulting contracts for "services" to help the homeless. All that tax money down the drain and California has more homeless than when the program started.

No consequences, no refunds, and the majority of Californians are so stupid that they will happily continue to vote Democratic till the entire state turns into a third world hellhole...

On a lesser scale than Cal., but Same over here on West side of Oregon. it's all about County and State 'management' of homelessness .

The thing is even if the state cut them all off, there are numerous ngo’s that would continue to enable the homeless lifestyle. Nothing would change. And the state would find another scam to waste the money on.

Just throw the tax payers money into a black hole with zero accountability. If that does not work, increase taxes and throw more.

Gavin for president in 24!

A true visionary crusader for the insane.

I wonder how many NGO's were involved with siphoning off the money and no doubt they are well connected Democrats. Much of this money gets recycled into campaigns. This is happening on the federal level as well with illegal immigration. Lots of folks getting rich of the taxpayers back. The country is broke and they need to cut off funding all of these NGO's the majority of which are acting against the best interests of the US.

Name one problem the government has ever solved?

When you feed birds, you get more worthless, lazy fucking birds shitting all over your yard. They will pick thru the seeds to eat only what they prefer and make a huge fucking mess around the birdfeeders. They will fight and scream and shit all over the place. They will nest in the nearby trees and bushes and raise families of lazy, worthless fuck off birds who will sit screaming in the trees until you feed them.

Works the EXACT same way for Mexicans, hobos, junkies, vagrants, Africans and white trash.

'Hi, I'm from the government and I'm here to help'
