When you are raising sheep, it is necessary to have sheepdogs to protect the flock. However you have to watch the dogs in case one goes bad. They will develop a bad attitude against the sheep and at that point you should get rid of them before something happens. If you don't get rid of them, sometimes they will maul, or even kill a sheep. At that point the only thing left to do is take the dog behind the barn and shoot it.

Heat of the moment. Why should anyone have to put their gun down in his own HOUSE especially before you know the situation is over?
I cant even watch all that video right now.. cops like that need to be treated like the terrorists they are this is too much
I have trained with cops and done ride-alongs once or twice a year, with several different agencies since 2007. Always CCW .
I relate to cops well and for the most part understand their mindset. It's a tough job. I have been on the cop side of calls similar to this at motels. This includes breaking down a hotel door, chasing subjects through multiple back yards then finding them hiding in the dark and once a take down of a person with a hammer who was headed to murder someone.
In all those calls I have never witness such unnecessary and reckless escalation. If folks are compliant and not thugs, things deescalate pretty accordingly. Even if the suspects are thugs things are deescalated as quickly as reasonably possible.
I have seen poor training but this hallway video is just beyond blatant disregard for human life.
Hard of hearing, he's deaf. Almost all of us that are of his age are hard of hearing. When you fire a handgun in a hallway you go from hard of hearing to deaf. The officer directing him to drop the gun is yelling at him and has a bright light shining in the subject's face. In all likely hood, the old guy can neither hear nor see the officer well enough to identify him. The officer does not yell police or do anything else to identify himself or his partner in the body cam tape.
I can't see the handgun when the subject first appears and the subject then moves back out of view in the hallway. When he reappears he is facing the officer. He has a flashlight in his left hand and a handgun in his right. The handgun is not pointed at the ground. It is at or approaching waist level. In addition, he appears to be pointing the light towards the officer. From reappearance to the officer firing is between two and three seconds. The report says the officers had arrived before the shooting of the intruder took place. It also says there were multiple people exiting the house as the officers approached the house. AJ's got this one right "shit show". I don't know what the protocols would be for an incident like this but it would be a hard one for me to call.
The second video with the man and woman in the hall way is simple. The officer is over the top. The expectation that an apparent drunk can follow the officers complex instructions, which are amended in each case with "I'm going to shoot you," is crazy.
If an untrained civilian shot down someone like that it would be death, or life sentence. Now we have persons sworn to protect us, and trained to do so...getting away with murder. From my own real life experiences most Leo's either don't know how to deescalate a scenario or simply ignore their training. I have seen persons handled so roughly that they can't help but try to protect themselves...then they are written up for assaulting an officer. There is a lot of bad people hiding behind badges. I am honored to know some good,true,real, Leo's that have right motives and actually joined to help. However the percentage is getting smaller.
It's that "win" every situation and "everyone is out to kill you" that is drilled into them at the academy's. Then add in all the bullies and bullied that want to be cops. Then add in how the general population has been in a cucoon from 0-18+ and have no real world experience or common sense for any subject.
It is the duty of officers, and civilians to report unsuitable behavior or an officer before this happens. When an officer goes out of his way to participate in community events and get to know who he's serving on a personal level...that is commendable and sets the example for others. Not only does it show that his motives are right and that he cares, but when an officer gets to know people personally he won't just gun them down on a whim. When an officer stays to himself and has a me, against the world attitude that is unhealthy for him/her and the community. Watch and report.
I know a few officers. One a relative of a friend I would shoot if he pulled his gun (he's spazed out and shot people out of fear before), another I'd drop whatever I'm doing to go help. All types out there and every one I've known will say fuck the law at times; sometimes to do what's right despite the law and some for other reasons. If I had to deal the trash they do all day, I'd be hell to deal with and stepping on the rule of law likely wouldn't matter from time to time, so not a job I'm made for. Given what's being fomented in what's left of society, I'm not too sure anyone's qualified.

I agree that there are good LE out there. It is a hard job and sometimes impossible. They have a split second to make a decision then it gets picked apart for months afterward.
I had a good friend, a boy i grew up with that became a state trooper. He was uncomfortable with searching people's crotches for weapons, i get it, it would be awkward. Unfortunately he and another trooper pulled a guy over for driving crazy. Dude had a POS High Point stuffed in his crotch and they didn't catch it. They cuffed him in the front and put him in the back of the squad car. He shot my friend Trooper Workman through the neck from the back seat then shot Trooper Bailey in the back of the head from the back seat. He got out, took a shot at the tow truck driver and hit him, non fatally, then took to the woods.
Once the two truck driver called it in, Trooper Workmans father was first on the scene as it happened just a few miles from where they lived. Trooper Workmans father and my dad worked together for decades and we grew up together. They were both great officers and I knew both of them and would've not hesitated to call either if needed.
Needless to say, they tracked the shooter into the woods. The shooter of course took both officers handguns before he bolted. He hid in wait to ambush the officers that were coming for him. A deputy sheriff took one in the vest from the shooter, giving away his position. The hammer was then brought down on the shooter by multiple officers and rightfully so. That guy deserved it and much worse.
In a situation like that, by all means, have no mercy and shred him far as I'm concerned. I abide by the law, I work hard every day, I come home, eat dinner, work on my guns, post a little on here and go to bed. I tow the line, I've never been arrested, I go out of my way to help anyone I can. I am always prepared to protect my family and I carry a pistol on me pretty much every waking minute of the day.
But all I have to do is be in the wrong place at the wrong time. They see this pistol on my side, they can shoot me. Doesn't matter that I'm a good man, just me, a law abiding citizen, carrying this pistol on my side as I'm entitled to do is enough to warrant them shooting me in the right situation. Ive been questioned on my own property before by LE asking me why I feel the need to carry this pistol. I always say: for the same reason you do.
I dont have to have a badge to protect myself and my family. It's our constitutional right to carry if we choose. But I'm going to always carry, I just feel that I shouldn't have to risk being shot by LE for it.

The sad truth is if this was a black Vietnam veteran people would be rioting in the streets. We need that to effect change. Were is the media? Why hasn’t this gone nationwide? We need restoration of our constitutional rights. We need to be able to Walk down the street armed yet we can’t even be armed in our own house defending our family. We can’t even expect to not be shot by Leo because we are unarmed. Leo have shot people in cuffs and not even been charged. Yes we need laws and police. No we don’t need to be treated as a occupied country by our own government.
This was the guy playing “simon says” with the hall video suspects. I would argue that leadership, this agency’s culture & policies actually were the key factors here. sgt. Langley had is team so ramped up and seemed to have confused team member that I think the cop who pulled the trigger might have been the wrong person on trial......
