Australia & Pistolgrip Stocks

Gents i'm looking for some information.
I just got an email from a customer who ordered an RCS stock from us.
He mentioned that he thought that pistol grip type stocks where illegal in Australia but that thumbhole stocks where legal.

As we have just altered our webshop catagory over to the RCS II, which is a pistol grip type stock I would like to confirm exatcly what the score is with this.

If this is correct it would make stocks the RCS II, AICS AX, McRee, Tacmodstock etc etc all not retailable to Australia.

Now I know that folding stocks are not allowed in Holland ( which is the reason we didN't just go with a folder)

so whats the case with the pistol grip types in Australia, and anywhere else for that matter.

and whilst we are at it,. I'm wondering if we shouldn't machine a set of thumbhole type tooling and offer both the pistol grip and thumbhole versions.

any input greatly appreciated.

Thanks Pete

Re: Australia & Pistolgrip Stocks

Hey Pete,

pistol grip stocks are fine 100%.

folding stocks are impossible to import unless you know a few tricks (i dont) as well as collapsing or telescopic stocks.

i own a rifle (Barrett 98B) with a pistol grip , and you can purchase pistol grip stocks from a lot of shops in aust.

hope that helps

Re: Australia & Pistolgrip Stocks

Hi Pete,

Pistol grip stocks are good to go, as there are more and more tube guns, mcree's, barrett 98B's and even a couple of DTA's getting around the place now.

Changing out the monte carlo style butts on some of the more common hunting rifles such as the rem 7615 and 7600 for rem 870 pistol grip butts is a common occurance.

Its the folding stock that screws us over mate, as the same with a collapsing stock, so the AR style butts for the tube guns and AICS 2.0's.... BAD. They make the rifle to easily conceable apparently, ha.

The RCSII should be good to go mate. If you want Ill track down the legislation re the folders/ collapsing stocks and email it to you.

cheers, hope this helps

Re: Australia & Pistolgrip Stocks

i have just run a quick on our australian law databases, and there is absolutely no mention of pistol grip stocks in any state or commonwealth acts, bills or legislation excluding the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) which states :

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body"><span style="font-weight: bold">Australian Capital Territory Consolidated Acts</span>

(2) The holder of a category B licence issued for the genuine reason of sport or target shooting is authorised to possess and use a registered prohibited rifle fitted with a pistol grip for the purposes of—

Pete, just to confirm the legality, do you want to post one of them to me as a test?

Re: Australia & Pistolgrip Stocks

Pistol grips are all good to go.

You can even purchase original remington pistol grip replacement stocks for their 7600/7615 model pump actions.

Its foldable stocks that cause the issues around here... stupid if you ask me

Re: Australia & Pistolgrip Stocks

Thankyou guys for the quick response, our customer also came back to us with the same, looks like Holland and Australia have the same rules on folders.

thats great, means we can run with the RCSII as is, adding a folder whilst we are at it for the folks who are allowed it.

just got the 1st plastic parts out of the machinery. my plastic guy wants couple of little adjustments, wants play around with the mixtures to adjust the shrinkage and colours and we are rocking.
Will get some pics up asap,
but the first set turned out better than any of us expected.

Excited I am.. rgds Pete

Re: Australia & Pistolgrip Stocks

Tappa91 you wouldnt happen to be the fella i bumped into at Little River with the black skinned RCS in the tikka? If so im the dude you spoke to with the AICS 700P.

Pete, another thing, it is "possible" to still get folders into the country, provided the folding ability has been how do you say... changed?

I know of one gentleman that has had a DTRS1 come in from germany, stopped by customs, and from memory sent back to germany to receive modification and then sent back with a locked up folding mechanism.

So there are loopholes in the system but to keep it safe n simple its easier to just stick with non-folding options.
