Gunsmithing AW Magazine into an AICS?

Re: AW Magazine into an AICS?

Bought a GAP 208 with badger action. It was in an AICS that was converted to run AW mags by GAP. I had a rifle built in 6.5 Creedmoor by APA. It runs on AICS mags. Jered said it is pretty easy to make it run AW mags though. I think it all in fitting of the catch. Check with either builder and see.

Re: AW Magazine into an AICS?

the mag release needs to be grind out carefully to fit the aw mags...once you do that i don't think you can use the aics mags anymore that's on my case.
the aics chassis needs to be mill to fit the badger 2008 but needs to be mill just a bit higher in order to fit both mags.
in my case the chassis was mill to low so it only fit the aw mags once a grind the mag release.

Re: AW Magazine into an AICS?

on say a remington 700 action, there is extensive work that needs to be done to the action to get the AW mags to work, the only actions they work off the bat with are the M2008,Randy Cains Guardian action, and the AI AW rifles. Its more than just the mag catch.

As for the AW mags working in an AICS chasis, they will do that just fine without modification to the chasis.

Re: AW Magazine into an AICS?

I spoke to Surgeon Rifles about the 591 with the AW mags, and they said it is doable, but not recommended. .001 too much metal removed from the bottom raceway and you are done...

Thanks for the replies.

Re: AW Magazine into an AICS?

Randy at R&D Precision led the charge to develop the ability to have an action that will feed from both the AICS and the AW. Aside from that, he was gentleman enough to not keep the capability all to himself. Defiance Machine figured out the geometry to make this happen and now the GUARDIAN action (from R&D), the STINKER and Model 911 actions (from Skunkworks), and I believe the TEMPLAR from GAP (I'm sure there may be more that I'm unaware of), all have the ability to feed from both magazines. I won't get into the details of how this is accomplished, but it's a pretty slick capability.
