Hey guys, wondering if anyone has the bottom of the action magwell dimensions handy for using AW mags. The only reference I could see was on defiance’s website about .400” wider but didn’t know if that was correct, and if so, .4” wider than what?

Specifically I am wondering if a Tuebor Raider needs to be opened up.

The magwell in your stock/chassis will be the same between an AW magazine and an AICS pattern.

The magwell cut on the underside of your action will be determined by the manufacturer whether or not it is compatible with an AW pattern magazine. As far as I know (which is very limited on the Tuebor stuff) the Raiders are not cut out for an AW magazine and therefore, will not get the rounds up high enough into the action to feed. As they are a standard, R700 SA footprint, you could have the action magwell opened up by a qualified gunsmith, but it usually isn't recommended as you start to remove a lot of material out of the bottom.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but when in doubt, call your gunsmith.

Yea, I called my smith and he was unsure so that's why I brought it to here. I called Matt at Tuebor as well and he was unsure as well so I assumed that was a no.

I was curious if anyone knew how much the action had to be opened up in order to accommodate the AW mags, that way I could determine whether or not there was enough material on this Tuebor.

PS, you guys rock. Thanks for replacing the cheek please I melted on my ESS chassis lol.

Left is a Defiance Deviant Elite and right is a standard R700. The Defiance is cut out for AICS and AW magazines and you can see has a large 45*-ish bevel on the underside, however the action design was intended to have this implemented from the factory, the 700 was not. In saying that, I know a few friends in WA who have 700's that have been modified to take AW mags, so it can be done.

As for the precise measurements, I am unsure of those, but I hope the picture helps illustrate how much material needs to be removed.
