I have a new barrel / I have PTG (535 Base Belted, T10214, .300 WinMag NO GO) and the bolt closes the same as the GO gauge. Anyone have any feedback on this PTG No Go gauge vs the AI Manual spec of AITG 33994 No Go gauge?

TIA

Well I might add that on my 300wm and 308 both close on a no-go gauge, but did not close on the field gauge. I'm guessing they do this for reliability? I've never had an issue with any cases or headspace issues.

If it has a red line it is the no-go. While it is possible the gauge is wrong it seems more likely that your barrel is out of spec.

As mentioned above...to at least give yourself an idea keep stacking a layer of scotch tape on the back of the no go until it doesnt close. I recall reading some of the AIs were a little long but wouldnt close on a field gauge.

I could be wrong but They should not close on a no go gauge. I have been to the armerors course and they said it should not close on a no go. I use PTG for my win mag on my AXMC and it does not close.

I could possibly just be lucky mine doesn't. But I would just double check with Mile High.

The initial headspace on the 300WM (or anything with a belt) is set by the belt. After the first firing, adjust the FL die to set the headspace on the shoulder. Then the belt and Go/NoGo gauges become irrelevant.

ive seen barrels close on one shops No Go...then taken to another shop and not close on the second shops No Go...not even AI barrels, this was fitted on a custom action...not all gauges are identical, just like barrels

Exactly - that is why I want to know the dimensions for AI part number AITG 33994 No Go Gauge. I spoke to PTG today and their Go gauge is .220 / No Go gauge is .224 / and a Field Gauge is .227. Scotch tape is 1.5 thousand’s per layer.

Edit to add: AI’s spec Headspace Range: 0.220 - 0.2271

Sounds like the AI part is available for purchase as well, however it is @ 8x more $ than the PTG

I have an older AINA 308 barrel. The No-GO is a tight close on one AW and a will not on the AX. I fired 308s from the same lot of Lapua brass from the barrel with this barrel on both the AW and the AX. Measurements, both pre and post-firing, told me what I wanted to know. There is no more than .001" difference. Controlling shoulder bump takes all the "worry" away and the brass lives on.
With 300WM the one thing I have found to build the best, most accurate loads is to religiously use the Innovative Technologies Collet Die every time I load to make sure my should is bumped to proper length and chambers the same every firing.
