run a long action .470 caliber, like a 270, say, could I use the 308 bolt assembly and the 300 Win Mag magazines. Likewise, if I wanted to run a 6.5 SAUM, could I use the 308 magazine and converter but the 300 win mag bolt head?

Exactly. Put differently, does the system allow mixing of the "short action" bolt and the long action magazines?

running the small bolt face with the LA mags might work but im pretty sure the SA mags will have trouble with SAUM/WSM cases unless you mod them...a buddy tried some 300 WSM cases in his AX mags and he said they wouldnt stay in...wanted to pop out because of the fat body...he didnt put a lot of effort into making it work, just dropped them in to try...so it might be possible with some effort/tweaks
