i ok picked up a factory aluminum bedded remmy B&C stock on here and them bought a adjustable cheek rest.

now my question is is the rear butt stock area hollow, or can it be drill and tapped? also is there any good way to remove the recoil pad, as there is no screws holding it to the stock.

Re: B&C stock question

I can't say for all models, but mine an A3 or Light tactical is definitely hollow. I wouldn't let this stop you, you can fill the stock, with glass and resin if weight's not an issue, a structural foam then glue in threaded inserts, or any number of things. There's lots of books and other info on working with fiberglass and composite, auto body, aircraft, marine, etc.

As far as the recoil pad, its glued on, there's atleast one post on here about taking them off, personally I'd make a jig to hold the seam in line with a bandsaw blade and cut it off. Or something to hold it and a handsaw in line, similar to a miter box. I recommend against freehanding.

Re: B&C stock question

I imagine, and with my experience with b&c, that it would be hollow, but no way to know for sure unless you know a part number and could call them to see. Most of my experience with the low cost side of stocks is that unless they are dominate, they're hollow in the stock area, which reduces the cost of manufacturing. As stated you could fill it with something. I'd think you could get some threaded inserts and then drill the stock to fit the inserts. Then epoxy them in place and be fine. I've done the cheek rest on hollow stock and just drilled the holes and installed with no tube or insert and not had any problems what so ever.

Re: B&C stock question

ok thanks guys. yea i could not sleep last night and searched for good while and found the recoil pad thread. As far as stock i am going to try and find something like the plastic wall inserts that you can thread into, but hopefully i can find something alittle better than those.

thanks for your input and info

Re: B&C stock question

I just drilled a B&C Medalist last night to install a Karsten. Both holes are 1.5" down from the comb and the rear most hole is about 3.25" from the pad, hollow. The next hole was about 5.5" from the pad, not hollow. Does that help any?

Btw, the wall thickness is about .375".
