I picked up a used B&C medalist varmint stock and it came with a factory Winchester one piece floor plate off of an M70 Coyote. I am replacing the stock on my M70 Super Shadow 300WSM that has a blind box mag. I just need confirmation that I don't use the middle action screw when using the one piece floor plate.
Everything is in place and I was able to use my existing mag box and spring follower.

There is a hole in the stock (half hole actually) for the middle screw but I can't see using a screw in my application.

Thanks

Mark

How in the world would you use one piece bottom metal with a model 70 and use the middle screw? You would have to drill a hole in the bottom metal to use it. All the middle screw does is hold the front of the trigger guard on when you are using 2 piece bottom metal. Oh it also induces undue stress to the reciever if over tightened. Never use 2 piece bottom metal on a model 70 unless you have to!!PTG makes replacement one piece for $92 if you are still running 2 piece. You don't have to be a smith to figure this out... But owning over 30 model 70's helps!!!

i would see if the b&c stock floats first........go fill up your bathtub and see if it floats like so many a rubber duckies do.

the screw hole is the least of your worries now......

Baypoint, the info in your last post would've helped it seem like you knew what you were talking about... nobody knew you've owned 30 of them by, "don't use it." I was just trying to point him in the right direction. If I'd had known, I would have said like wise but I haven't owned a single model 70.

I was being nice with my first post as it is a pretty obvious answer. But it never hurts to ask!!!Especially when you are all excited about your new stock and don't want to screw it up

Boltripper, I've seen you make this comment on B&C stocks before and I'm curious about your point because I have a B&C A5 and if you would, could you please enlighten me as to what floating/not floating has to do with the stock?? Yes, I'm a FNG... what can I say.

I here you. My gun collection only consists of 3 weapons as of this moment... a XDM .40SW, M4jury and a Remington 700. One of these days I'll have to take a look at the guns you are talking about.

Re: B&C stock with factory Winchester 1 pc bttm metal

if you have been around any gunplumbers that are worth a shit....and do things that are worthy of the tasks that we perform..... you will find a trend.....the stuff that don't work, or breaks , or the manufacturer won't return phone calls , or got snotty customer service.....don't get worked on or used again.

i mean .....if it broke once, what makes you think it won't again when you need it the most???

so....getting back to peeking over the shoulder of your favorite gunplumber....the savvy will be made knowledgeable to the junk that is hoisted upon the gun buying public.....mostly the above mentioned hunting stocks.....

they got a low density foam core wrapped in fiberglass or carbon fiber....a THIN SKIN OF IT.....READ A FUCKING CANOE OAR.

if you don't believe try and mount a cup swivel or another sling stud some where on these .........stocks,,,,,then go hang a sling on them and go do the stuff we do to a comp gun or a serious hunting rig.......

there is a reason no one has come forward to show these things in action....or show up at any comps that i been to lately....'cause no one wants to stand around with their dick in their hand and look stupid with a broke dick stock masquerading as a canoe oar..........savvy?

Thanks Boltripper, now I won't scratch my head about that anymore. Any advise on my B&C A5 fully adjustable with the aluminum bedding block?? I'm on the fence about replacing it...
