Alright So I just completed my 6.5 creedmore ar-10 build. I am looking at option for mounting a backup red dot. Due to where the scope bell is positioned A traditional 1 O'clock mount doesn't seem to give enough clearance to mount the red dot. I was curious if anyone has looked at a 3 o'clock mount (I can easily change it around with the free float tube and movable rail section. The other option is mounting it near the end of the hand guard. I may end up just picking up another red dot and tossing the one I have currently onto something like my 12ga but I figured I would ask around first and see what people had tried.

If you mount a sight at 3 o'clock, wouldn't you have to employ the "gangsta hold"?

The 3 oclock position just lets everyone in the room know you are serious. Ha ha

Re: Backup RedDot Mounting

You can try rings that have the mount on them... then utilize an offset mount..

Its what worked for me and allowed me to NOT have to remove my head position when transitioning to the red dot.

Re: Backup RedDot Mounting

if you're running a quad rail, put it out in front of the scope on a 1:00 mount. I'm a recent left-handed shooter (blood clot in right eye), and have also used a 1:00 mount between the rings, off to the left on a right-handed upper. Wouldn't work well for a RH shooter, due to the ejection port.
