I want to get my 700P shooting and I need a base. I want to get a Badger Ordnance 0moa base as I don't plan to go beyond 300 yards here in PA anytime soon.

My question is, what thread pitch do I need for the screws to mount the base to a stock 700P?

And also, what rings should I get to secure a Nikon Buckmasters 40mm scope? I don't need anything special, just not junk as I'll be hopefully throwing a NF NXS on there with Badger rings shortly down the road.

If any of you guys have an extra set of rings that will work at the right height, let me know what you want for them.

Thanks guys

Re: Badger base for 700P and ring height question

My as well get a 20 moa base, you may eventually need it and the cost is the same. The standard screws that come with it will work on the unaltered Remington. Base height, since the Buckmaster is a 1" tube someone else will have to advise you there.

The nightforce uses a 30mm tube so you will need two sets of rings.

Re: Badger base for 700P and ring height question

Right, I agree with 20moa cant, but I have another 700 Varmint 308 barreled action coming I want to turn into my next deer gun, so that will get the 0moa base and then I'll add a 20moa base.

I just don't want to push the elevation on a Nikon Buckmasters, as I'm not sure if I have 20moa to play with at this time.

Re: Badger base for 700P and ring height question

Jello,

If you want a Badger base get the 20 MOA. You lose nothing with a 20 MOA base vs a 0MOA base. But it does set you up well for shooting LR in the future.

Standard Rem thread pitch is 6x48.

The Nikon Buckmaster scope line are 1" tube scopes. Badger bases are made to 1913 Picitinny rail spec. So you want 1" Rings (30mm rings with 1" inserts, will also work) that fit 1913 spec bases.

If a NF 50mm NXS is in your future, I would buy Badger 30mm Low rings (steel or alloy) and Badger Ring Reducers (30mm to 1").

IMHO,

Bob

Re: Badger base for 700P and ring height question

I checked the specs on buckmasters

3-9 =80 moa range
4.5-14 =50 moa

still waiting for my dial up connection to catch up for the 6-18
but on the other two you will be go to go with a 20 moa base.

Re: Badger base for 700P and ring height question

It's the 4.5-14x40 side focus mildot scope. I put it on a 17HMR for squirrel seasons and when I got out in the woods I realized 4.5x is not low enough for practical use. So it'll go on my 700P for the time being until I get an NXS.

Re: Badger base for 700P and ring height question

I have used EGW as well and they are good. Their HD line uses 7075 alloy and I believe they can be had in a flat base if you so choose to go that route. At about 1/2 price of badger. They just don’t have the recoil lug as the badgers do. I have yet to see a improvement between the two accuracy wise or means of use on my 223's and 308's. But I’m not jumping off choppers or air planes with my rifle either... just range and hunting fields and an occasional use around shooting barricades...
