So i took the plunge on a Badger DBM for my Remington 700 in .308. I had it set up with a Bell and Carlson A2 and it shot great.... 3 and 5 shot groups either.5 moa or better. I decided to do the work myself being arrogant and cheap so i went in with the dremel, after a few painfull hours with the dremel it and filing i got the damn thing to fit and function finally. Unfortunatly i also had to hack down the rear pillar a few 1/8ths of an inch just to make it fit. Me and two other range officers at the range i work at shot it now my rifle barely shoots 1" some groups well over... did my hackjob F up my rifle or do i need to calm down and try it again.

Re: Badger DBM Nightmare

Did you drill out and bed with the pillars that came with the Badger?

When mounting the DBM the length of the front and rear screws have to be tightened to the exact length of the pillars that came with it. If you hacked at whatever was in your B&C stock or shortened the Badger pillars, you're hosed.

The action needs to be bedded into the top of the stock and the DBM into the bottom, and the distance between them has to be 0.72" front and 1.07" rear, the length of the pillars. The pillars are spacers.

If you're referring to the pillars that came with the DBM, I'm unclear why you had to shorten it and wondering how the mag fits and feeds with it like that?

Re: Badger DBM Nightmare

Make sure your recoil lug is seated correctly in the stock. Loosen the actions screws alittle and push down or back on the barreled action to make sure the recoil lug is contacting the recoil lug recess in stock and then retorque the action screws to spec.

Re: Badger DBM Nightmare

First i had to channel out the magwell on the stock just for the magwell on the triggergaurd to fit in the stock. That wasnt doing the trick it still stuck out way to far, so then i decided to dremel down the two pillars already in the stock from the bottom of the stock and the area around them to make it flat. I never touched the top where the reciever slides in. That had to be done so the two srew slots could fit in. There was way to much space between the triggergaurd and reciever. Eventually after enough filing with the dremel the dbm slid in and i was able to get the srews into the reciever... i never drilled out the original pillars because i though it would work with the two already in the stock. i guess i should have them replaced them with the ones supplied by badger. everything fits and works like it should i just know it doesnt shoot like it used to... This just might be a hard lesson to have learned

Re: Badger DBM Nightmare

Having been down this road with a B&C A2....I left their pillars in- but had to measure/mill measure/mill repeat etc. to get everything to come out correctly. After I was done- woulda been faster to mill them out and use the Badger pillars.

did you take the same amount off both pillars?

Re: Badger DBM Nightmare

I was able to take it in to work and a few guys helped me even everything out and line it up correctly, now the rifle is shooting like it was... much better and a huge relief.

I did not mill the pillars evenly the rear had the most milled down. I just kept trying until i got it to work, thats the only advice i had. I was unable to find any instruction for the B&C stock and installing the system, so i went in blind. I also wish i drilled out the old pillars and used badgers, but oh well lesson learned.
