Hi Guys ,

Just built up a Covert clone using a Badger M2008 short action , will post a pic , as soon as I can ( photobucket seems to have crashed ) .
Uses a BT can , around 2 feet long 35mm dia .

Re: Badger M2008 Covert

Thanks , will see how it shoots & sounds .

The can is the correct BT can made for the Suppressed version of the AW , the barrel is the same contour etc , BUT is not a 1-9 twist , its a little tighter at 1-8 , so should be able to run bullets a little heavier .

Defintely will be interesting .

Cheers Chris

Well...You've pretty much teased everyone, who has seen this thread, to the point where you CANNOT get out of a range report.

Re: Badger M2008 Covert

Honestly , I have only just got my 300WM M2008 built , and as you can see just receieved by 308Win build ( suppressed ) .

So very early days yet , have not even chambered a round in the short action yet ( 308 ) .

Impressions are they are very well made , they are not AS smooth as a AI AW/AWM action , as I have these as well .

My opinion at the moment ( with little use so far ) , is that for shooters inside the US they are a lower cost alt to a AI rifle , but due to much high costs to export to other countries , then it is that they are too close to a AI price ( and thats soley down to the very high cost of currently Exporting Anything out of the US , as it seems they are super paranoid/stupid/govT or all 3 ).

Having said all that , you will be thinking , why the hell did I bother , thats simple , I paid for these actions , when the World was a simpler more logical place , before the cost & rules of Export sky rockected in price & time.

Also they sat in Australia for 7 mths , as the US Exporter did not do his job properly , Opps , it seems they needed a Aussie Import & Export permit , JUST to transit from the US to NZ .

Will shoot it today , 208gr Amax & Trailboss powder .

If you buy a Badger , for heavens sake , donot get them to paint the bolt body or the inside race way , as it will not cycle properly as to the tight specs .

Cheers Chris

Re: Badger M2008 Covert , Pics Up

Here's a pic of it with scope mounted .

zeroed at 50m , used 3 loads of Trailboss , 12.0 , 12.5 & 13.0 gr with a 208 gr Amax bullet .

The sound is like a air rifle , with the domiant sound being the bullet hit the dirt hard down range .

weird thing is I get the most velocity from the smallest powder charge ?

Will have to re do it , and check I am correct .

Lowest is 934 fps , highest is 1054 fps .

Rifle cycles nice , and seems a solid platform , have about 1/4 inche of clearance between scope and can , so all good .

Cheers Chris

Nice rifle mate I love my badgers too.

now then this is going to require a bit more explanation for me...mainly in the area of who the "they" is that you are referring to.

and finally

you do realize there is an epic turd in the photo right? maybe my eyes are decieving me but I hate to say this ... if im you, im finding a different spot to go prone...a turdless one.

Re: Badger M2008 Covert , Pics Up

Why 308 , well IF I went to a short case like 30BR I think it would not feed as repeater action , and did not want a singleshot gun.

Also as to why not 338 cal , is the can is 30 cal .

Cheers Chris

P.S.

Guys inside the US , have no idea as to the increase in cost & time & mindless redtape , people outside the US have to deal with IF they want US made shooting products , this ranges from rifles/barrels/scopes down to torq screws & reloading components like brass & bullets etc .

And as it is almost impossible to deal with , you now see custom 700 type actions made in of all places England , as well as ARs made in Germany , as well as bottom metals and stocks etc .

And I know what I am talking about as I have had Surgeon actions and Bartlein barrels exported before the current rise in FFL Export costs , and the corresponding decrease in the number of actual FFL Exporters .

I am sure these rules & extra costs , stop OBL from being able to operate ( that was a joke , in case you missed it ) .

Licenced Sporting shooters from around the world are not the problem , and are much tighter controlled than the shooters & citizens inside the US .

Chris is dead on about massive red tape and extreme costs exporting anything firearm related. In the past, importing and exporting was something any FFL could do given some time and reasonable patience. Now, you are looking at massive increases in paperwork/beaurocracy and expense. ITAR permits for a defense contractor aren't a big deal. For a small FFL shop it is not financially prudent to pay all the licensing costs and hire all the people needed to push the paperwork through.

Re: Badger M2008 Covert , Pics Up

Seems like all the bs of importing would create some entrepreneurs in your country. AI rifles are great. Imported and priced higher than giraffe pussy Then an enterprising soul creates the badger and in a stroke of pure genius enters the market with the action priced competitively with most 700 clones ( in the us)

Red tape sucks. I get that.

Don't taste the turd oh and my vote is donkey but I am by no means a qualified turd examiner amature maybe. Any way that is a very nice rifle and looks to be worth the wait plus the heart and soul was made in the USA thanks for that too

Here's a pic of it Mate , in 300WM , and its running the same 208gr Amax's , but a bit faster at around 2900 fps , instead of 1000 fps in the Covert .

It has the same profile as the AI AWM , heavy & fluted the same , running a Badger FTE brake & USMC rings .

Chris, how is the accuracy so far on your 208 AMAX subsonic loads? Just curious as I've been using these in My 16" Savage subsonic gun for a while now with 12.5 grains of Trailboss & they are quite accurate in my rifle.

I asked my 7 yr old daughter what she saw in the photo when she was passing by, and she instantly replied "doodoo!" Haha, shows where their minds are at. Id like to do something similar to these rifles in .300blk on a .223 action, this thread has my gears turning.

Marty @ Badger sells them at real good prices. Comparable to any good remmy 700 clone.
