Badger M5 in a Winchester 70/ FN?

I just installed the FN TBM on my SPR and I'm super excited about it. I don't think there could be a more rugged bottom metal out there and it's designed for the pre '64 action and comes with a 5 and 10 round mag. The extra 10 round Mags are only $50 compared to the IMO highly overpriced AI mags.

Some clarity:

True pre'64 M-70s are all long actions. "Classic" (CRF) M-70s made in the 1990's and later can be either short or long action.

The TBM Kit will fit short action M-70 actions very well, to include push feed short action M-70s. Of course, the stock inlet for the bottom metal will need to be modified if the original was a hinged floorplate. Winchester did make some M-70s with the four round DBM in their line in the late 1980s and early 1990s before FNH picked the design up for the SPR and PBR. TBM will fit the DBM inlet with little or no modification, as Bear 24 can attest.

A benefit to the FNH TBM is the lack of modification to the action required for the CDI assembly. The TBM is steel. This could be good or bad, depending if strength and durability is more important to you than weight. CDI takes the more common AI mags, but the FNH mags go for about $54 through Midway or Brownells.

Hope this helps.

"Pre-64" actions are all long actions and were made prior to the end of the 1963 production. They have a guard screw spacing of 7.450" front to rear. Post 64 Winchester actions are of two length's, a long action with a guard screw spacing of 7.575" and a short action with a guard screw spacing of 7.035". There is also a super short action with a guard screw spacing of 6.357".
Post 64 controlled feed actions with the claw extractor are not "pre-64's", they have the standard post-64 guard screw spacing. If you order a stock for these as a "pre-64" then the action and floorplate will not fit and you will have to send the stock back as dozens of our customers have found out.
