Ok it would seem the Badger rail is one of a few top rails to get ... my beer budget has run dry trying to appease the champagne tastes ... How are EGW rails ..

I need ring and base suggestions that won't break the bank.

And thanks ahead of time for answering all my newbie Rem 700 questions.

going on a Rem 5R .223 I don't hunt just target shooting .. I'm sure i will graduate to badger down the road but i need a decent rail in the mean time, I have standard weaver rings right now. I know i hate to buy twice but $140-$180 isn't cheap.

question is ... what rail i was going got start with a 0 moa

i may be able to shoot up too 600yards originally it was only 100-200 .

EGW Base and Burris XTR rings will work in a pinch, and you'll only be in for about $100 total. I've used both with good success when money was tight. The base is aluminum, so not as rigid as a badger, but for most applications it will work just fine.

Good luck,
Erik

I have nothing but good things to say about EGW. Myself and a few of my buddies have them and are outstanding for the money. Take a look at Weavers base with the recoil lug as well. Id look into the TPS rings, Burris Xtremes, Weaver Tactical. Depends on what your using them on, TPS's are very nice and solid for the money. They will be on my next build and one im building for a friend.

I liked the EGW's on a couple of Savages I built. The one thing I noticed about them is that they go on tight, but they can't move. At first I was a little bothered by that but after getting a Weaver for a 700 that has a lot of slop around the bolts, maybe only .010" but very noticeable, I liked the tightness. I would buy an EGW again but wouldn't recommend the Weaver.

Go to EWFA 's web site get a weaver 20 MOA base for $40.00 bucks and get a set of Millet Angel-Loc rings for another $540.00 and call it good. I have this setup on 9 rifles and none have ever come loose or lost zero. But your money.

+1 Seekins makes excellent rails and rings. Definitely should be on the list to check out.

Allot of of great info, So far the EWG and Burris are looking like an affordable combo.

Read the rules.
