Today I am very happy that I finaly received my Rebarreled/blueprinted action back from Kreiger barrels, I had them also install a new Badger ord recoil lug onto it.

When I went to put the action in the Bell and Carlson Medalist stock, I now feel sad because the groove they cut for the recoil lug is not deep enuff.

How should I go about this? the groove was milled out of the Aluminum Bed of the stock.

1, do I pay some overpriced smith in my town to mill the stock?

2. do I take a hacksaw and shorten the recoil lug?"keep in mind, this is on a 700 action and to replace the lug would need smithing work that I already paid alot of money for"

3. take a Dremel and try to cut a deeper base in the aluminum frame of the stock?

I'm up for any ideas you all have .

I have done both.

Hog out the aluminum a little at a time. It's easier than trying to trim the lug when doing it at home as a DIY project with a simple Dremel. When done make sure you have enough room to bed everything properly is all. Also look at where the action sets in the stock and if the lug recess area needs to be cut back a little too.

Just take your time, it's easy.

I would have the bottom of the lug milled shorter.

Problem with the B&C and HS stocks is if you mill down into the aluminum skeleton and happen to make it too thin or cut through altogether you will need a new stock. The fill and shell of these stocks is worthless without the aluminum skeleton.
