Baer 308

Re: Baer 308

I'm interested in buying a high end 308 semi auto and trying to decide between the gap-10 and the baer 308. Are u happy with the baer 308? Anything you would change about it? What size groups are you shooting?

Re: Baer 308

I have not had the chance to put many rounds through mine yet, but overall, it is what I was expecting. I do not have a GAP-10, so I cannot compare it to that, but the Les Baer is a very nice rifle. Using a load for another AR, I was able to shoot groups between 1/2 and 3/4 inch at a hundred. It comes with an accuracy guarantee of 1/2" 5 shot group at 100, but I wouldn't think that GAP-10 would give anything up in that department. I bought the LB because it's just something different, shoots great, and was available at what I felt like was a steal. Otherwise, buying new, I don't know that the price jump to the LB really gets you anything over the GAP.

Re: Baer 308

I've had mine for almost two years. The barrel is 18" and I did get the enforcer brake which works very well. At this point I have about 1000 rounds through it. It shoots .5MOA or better with 168 and 175SMKs as well as with 168 AMAXs. The only issue I've had is with mags: though the rifle comes with PMAGs I found that it fed much more reliably with Larue metal mags (which are unfortunately pricey though durable as hell).

I love the Monolith configuration: it allows a lot of flexibility with sights. I run two setups: a G2DMR in a Spuhr mount and a NF NXS in rings: with the monolithic flat top you can really dial in your eye relief and shooting position (nose to charging handle, cheek further back, whatever).

I can't comment on the GAP as I've not shot one but I doubt it gives anything away (love their bolt guns).

Re: Baer 308

I just got mine a week ago. Mono with enforcer brake it works great. So far mine likes 175 black hills and 168 fgmm and 168 tap
Best 5 shot group so far

Re: Baer 308

I don't know why you would want to do this unless to fit a supressor. The brake works very well: I doubt another would work better (though who knows). On the other hand another owner (beenjamin on the forum) commented that the brakes are screwed and glued in place and are therefore hard to replace.

I would recommend you talk to LBC directly about this; they can give you the thread specs and their thoughts on the matter.

Les is an old friend who'se been building me carry and comp weapons for more than 25yrs. He mentioned he was working on a supressor option for the Monolith but I did not pursue that with him since it didn't seem to be worth the hassle for me. You might ask about that as well.

Re: Baer 308

I actually bought Beenjamins from him, so the muzzle brake on mine is removable and threaded 5/8-24. I'm not sure what he had to do to get it off, but speaking for mine it does come off somehow. Like speed dog said, it works very well. I also have annother .308 AR with an APA little bastard and can't tell much of a difference in recoil between the two.
