Baltimore City IS a shithole. I grew up in the city. A city that let kids (parents) choose what schools they wanted to attend-regardless of where they lived BUT somebody decided that was racist because the kids all chose to go to school near where they lived. So decided they knew better and shipped kids into "other" neighborhoods. Bussing made things sooooooo much better. Wow the stories I could tell and that was back when things were good.
After the Army I came back to the area; but moved to Baltimore County. If you look at a map, Baltimore County is like the helmet on the special kid (Baltimore City). Back then Baltimore County needed its own wall; but its far too late for that now. Baltimore County has not only been invaded by the City; but its also been invaded by the City mindset. The Baltimore County Police went from hiring the best of the available applicants, to actually changing the policy to: hiring applicants who look like the public they serve. Don't bother to apply if you don't fit the new look. The former Baltimore County testified to Congress following the Sandy Hook incident. His testimony about gun violence was a LIE. He would say he miss remembered; but if his memory was that bad he couldn't have remembered how to get home from DC. IDK maybe his memory is that bad, when he testified he did it with half of his insignia UPSIDE DOWN. That's Baltimore County, the City is 10x's worse.
If you could take all the history out of Baltimore CITY (Ft McHenry, The Flag House, etc) then it could burn without any real loss. Take a moment to watch (re-watch) HBOs THE WIRE. That was real then and its only gotten worse. The former Mayor is the one who said; "give the children space to DESTROY" and thus became the Freddie Grey RIOTS. Once the RIOTS started she couldn't be found for hours, so long that the governor had to step in.
