Ok, I havent been here in awhile. Im not the person that shoots every weekend. I dont have much land at my house but I have family land about an hour away and have a few friends with some land. Anyway I went shooting with a friend who is home from school on winter break and we found a great spot on his family land, we can get out to about 500 or so. (not much open land in western NC) So I figured I should probably get a spotting scope. Ive only got a 10x fixed and my buddy has a 3-9x so I just tried to watch for trace (never seen it before). So I got on midway today and found some cheap spotting scopes. I dont want to get too much money invested into shooting because I never get to do it.

I picked this up off midway with some Christmas money.

I know barfska has a reputation, cheap. But I have had a barfska on a 17hmr and it worked fine, looked and felt like a 75dollar scope but it worked. And the reviews on this scope are pretty good. Just hope it holds up.

Re: Barfska spotting scope, crap?

Okay, I'll admit it, I looked through someone else's Barfska spotting scope this year while hunting (I believe the same one at Midway). It honestly wasn't as bad as I expected it to be, as a matter of fact I didn't know it was a Barfska till after I was done using it. For as cheap as it is I wouldn't mind having one for a truck/ATV day spotter, it didn't do too well in the lower light. They owner of the scope was trying to put horns on a spike bull elk (700yds)as the sun was coming up through the clouds, I had it picked out way before him with my Leupold, and had I had a tag it would have been dead already. But once the sun got out a little more, he found the spikes, and even made a good shot.

Re: Barfska spotting scope, crap?

They are adaquate as long as your not trying to spot 22 caliber holes at 100 yards. That's were they fall down as their resolution is not the greatest. At least the one I looked through.

Re: Barfska spotting scope, crap?

All I really need it to do is see 30 cal holes at 500 or under. I dont necessarily need to see the holes. I usually shoot with a buddy, one shoots and the other spots. Id just like to see bullet hits off of dirt, grass and such.

Re: Barfska spotting scope, crap?

I bought one at Cabelas and promptly returned it due to it was useless past 20X magnification. Got a Cabelas Alpha scope which in my opnion is one of the best values in spotting scopes out there. Very usable at all magnifications.

Re: Barfska spotting scope, crap?

I agree from what I've seen you be lucky to see 30 caliber holes much past 200 yard. As I posted before the resolution of the Barfska leaves a lot to be desired.

Re: Barfska spotting scope, crap?

I have owned one Barfka rifle scope and it was functional at best. I used it in competition for a year and it was a PITA but won me a few trophies. I have looked through the Barfka spotters and they were ok as some have said, barely adequate I would say. Konus is a much better spotter in the economy price range.

Re: Barfska spotting scope, crap?

I have a barska 22-66x, and I can see .30 cal holes out to about 350m. if you are using it for splash point you should be good under 500m. Anything more than that you might have to upgrade a little. Havin fun is the main thing, and stay safe.

I just saw those last night. If this barfska isnt clear enough I will return it for a konus.
