Anyone tried the Barnes 171gr 7mm match burner bullets?

Wanting to know if they are designed like the Bergers VLDs or more like the SMKs and if the OAL is finicky?

I will be loading them in the 7mm-08

I will also be sending an email to Barnes to ask the same but thought I would ask here too.

Hey bro, can't tell you about the 7mm, but the initial results from the 6.5 shows some promise. It was a really hasty work-up, and I don't believe in 3-shot groups, but I was short on brass... and time.

Shape-wise, it looks a lot like the Scenar, maybe just slightly more pointed. I know this isn't quite the info you're looking for, but maybe it will get you off the fence to get some to try

Curious to hear more about these, though I don't really see what advantage they have over the 175smk. The *claimed* BC of the 171 is the same as the actual, verified BC of the sierra. Sure, the 171 will go a couple fps faster...but the 175 is just a fantastic bullet. It is super easy to load, transitions to subsonic well, and is no more expensive than the 171.

Still, interested to learn how the 171s shoot, and how the BC actually shakes out.

Along the same lines, Nosler is due out with some uber-BC Accubonds soon. I'm not holding my breath on their BC claims either.

Hey bro, nice groups!! You tried them too, eh? At 200yds, nice!! I bought some for my new build but just trying to get a starting point, same thing don't want to spend a crap ton of time trying to figure something out. Put that call into Barnes we will see what they say?

For me, the advantage is cost. If I can find something that shoots as well as a Berger or Lapua, but for nearly $10 less per hundred, that's going to be my go-to.
