Bare with me , the new guy if this subject is posted somewhere that i missed. What if any methods do shooters use to break in a new barrel ? I purchased a 22" Fulcrum .224 Valkyrie 1:6.5 from Bison Armory for my project gas gun and normally put a little oil on patch for coating after cleaning up after factory machining and fire 1 round, brush, oil patch for first 6 rounds and then repeat after every 3 rounds for first 20 rounds.

I run a patch with some good old Hoppe’s #9 and then a dry patch. Then it’s load, shoot, repeat until she’s toast. 686 rounds and as of this morning she’s still a 1/2” gun.

But, some barrel manufacturers have specific break in regiments on their websites so I would look there first.

Sample of two.
Precision AR build no break in = 0.45” groups
Custom bolt gun with Bartlein barrel no break in = 0.16” groups
So yeah I don’t do the shoot clean stuff. Waste of time (for me).

Clean it before you go shooting, lightly, make sure it's all clear.

Then go to the range, shoot it like normal, when you get home to clean it like normal

The barrel is broken in, try to put at least 100 rounds through the first day, and clean as usual when you get home.

After that shoot it and drive on.

I did not break in my JP, it shot this last week

Cleans up no problem.

I am averaging about 600 rounds between cleanings now with no issue.
