I am interested in changing the barrel on my .243. What is a fair price to for a barrel swap? The new barrel is already chambered and threaded just needs to be put on and have head space checked.

Thanks guys.

Re: Barrel Change

I appreciate the reply, but these prices seem high due to the fact that they include chambering. I have a GA, but this is for a different rifle. If it is going to cost $200, I'll just buy the HS gauge, and action wrench and do it myself.

Re: Barrel Change

Unless you have a Savage or like system with an adjustment nut, it will have to have a chambering reamer run in it to get the headspace right. Most other rifles made by Remington or Winchester or clones of same, it's cheaper in the long run to send the blank with the receiver and get it chambered right. I have fit several "take off" barrels. I have never had one that wasn't different and needed a recut on the chamber. I have read that possibly 1 of 15 may actually interchange. I just haven't found that one yet.

Good luck with your choices.

Unless you can get a recoil lug thats the right thickness. I have done that a few times and just custom cut the lug and it spun right together.
