Barrel contour question for 243, tactical comps

Looking at the Bartlein contour page, I noticed that the medium Palma contour would weigh the same as a fluted M40/M24 contour. Cut down to 26" it might weigh even less. Finished length to be 26". I am not concerned with total weight, but would like to keep the rifle not too muzzle heavy.

For tactical comps, would the M40 contour be more stable than the Palma? I would not be putting a can on the barrel, as I live in an un-can state.

What would you recommend, and why? Thanks for the help.

medium palma is a great contour and isn't nearly as front heavy as a fluted m40. remember palma barrels are weighed as if they are 30" long and should be noticably lighter

Yup. I run a modified Med Palma on mine, great barrel. Fuck the truck axle....

How does the medium palma contour compare to Remingtons varmint contour? Looking at the Krieger website they look similar.

I use a light palma for comps and it works great at a little less weight.

If a suppressor was going to be used, would you still use a Palma, or would something else be better?

I use either a light or medium palma for the length and weight. I am currently using a med palma at 26 inches with a can and have a new replacement med palma on the shelf, will have the can on it!

I run the heavy palma and wish I had gone with the medium for matches, balance seems a little better with the medium.

Rob01 is running a very effective 243 for competition(s) and shot extremely well yesterday with it. I think it's an MTU contour or something around that kind of weight. I'd suggest shooting him a PM and seeing what he says about it. 243 is a great round for pushing in a tactical competition, it's especially nice during UKD and windy settings.
