Hi,

What is the best contour that you will recommend for my both rifle?

• Target Rifle / Benchrest Rifle
Stiller Viper SS Action
Integral Recoil Lug
McMillan Tooly MBR Stock
Full Pillar Bedding

• Tactical Rifle
Stiller Tac 30 Repeater Action
.30 Taper Recoil Lug
Cadex .30 Dual Strike Chassis

Is it too stress at barrel tenon for this contour for Target Rifle (Viper SS action)?
• 1.25" x 5" Taper to 1" @ 32" Muzzle

Is it too heavy to use this contour for Tactical Rifle (Tac30 w/.30 Recoil Lug)?
• 1.25" x 3" Taper to .93" @ 26" Muzzle
• M24/M40 Contour @ 26" Muzzle
• MTU Contour @ 26" Muzzle

Lastly what brand of barrel will you choose?

• Krieger 5R SS .300/.308
• Bartlein 5R SS .300/.308

Best Regards,

It depends, are you a body builder? ;)

If you ever pick up a 26" MTU barreled rifle and try to run around with it, it'll probably make you laugh.

No problem with a 28" MTU shooting matches. ;)\

OP, if you are already worried about weight then you don't want heavy. Go with the M24/40 or even a med palma. Bartlein is an excellent choice.

What's the use of both rifles going to be? As in what sports? Some have weight restrictions which you might want to keep an eye on.

The Target would for F-Class Open (The problem that I worried was about barrel tenon which wrench to action have to work with barrel weight around 8.88 lbs. Most benchrest shooter move to barrel clamp system.

The Tactical would just for range shooting and may plan to cut barrel to 20-22"

If there are no weight constrictions I would go as heavy as possible on the BR rifle, you won't be carrying it far.

A MTU contour gets heavy for a tactical rifle especially if it's going in a chassis too. I personally prefer something aroud rem varmint or medium Palma. On 308 though you don't NEED a 26" barrel either, you can run a 22" and save some weight and the MTU is t as bad but I'd still run a M24/40 for a few mor ounces savings.

Between your two barrel choices the bartlein would be my choice. I had a few krieger barrels give me fits with fouling.

Yeah, I prefer the heavy weight for Target Rifle but just worried that the weight of barrel will make stress at barrel tenon which thread into Action.

The Viper Action use 1.0625-18 tpi, 1.115 inch headspace.

The Tac30 Action use 1.0625-16 tpi, 0.700 inch headspace.
