Barrel for a 6.8

Re: Barrel for a 6.8

It depends on your price range. I prefer Noveske but have seen some great groups from the Rainier Ultra Match barrels. I've also owned a WOA (Shilen 1-11) that was very accurate and worked well for hunting. The Wilson Combat, AR Performance (1-11 6.8spcII), and Bison Armory barrels are all exactly the same and seem to perform well.

If I were buying another one today I would buy them in the order I listed them (Noveske the best and AR Performance/Bison best value) based upon what I wanted to spend.

Re: Barrel for a 6.8

Consider the Rainier Arms Ultramatch barrels, which are Shilen blanks finished by WOA to Rainier specs. Very accurate with a variety of loads; not temperamental at all.

I have owned 2 Rainier UM's, 3 Noveske's, a Bison, and an ARP (all in 6.8, and maybe others that I don't recall at the moment). Accuracy-wise, Noveske is on par with UM, but tend to be more picky about loads. ARP provided the highest velocities. Bison shot very well considering the price.

Re: Barrel for a 6.8

I just completed a build with Rainier's Ultramatch (Shilen) 16" 6.8spc barrel.

This this shoots unbelievably well.

I have used their barrels on a few other builds and they are all outstanding.

I would not hesitate at all in using them for another build.

Re: Barrel for a 6.8

I got a complete SPR upper from Bison Armory, built the lower myself. With a Timney trigger, A2 stock, and a 12x scope, I got consistent 3/4" groups at 200 yards with it. I switched scope when the 12x crapped out, and got a Nikon M223 in 2-8x, and can consistently hit a 12"x12" plate at 500 yards with my pet hand load.
