What difference would I see in a 3 groove vs 6 groove .243? Is there any speed, accuracy, or barrel life differences? I'd like to shoot 105-115g bullets as close to 3000 as possible but also I would like to keep the barrel shorter like 20-22" but I think I'm going to have stay at 24".

3 grooves.

You shouldn't notice any difference if the land/groove surface area ratio is the same.

Re: Barrel Grooves

When shooting in a barrel with an even number of "grooves" the bullet is pinched between the opposing lands. This can cause greater bullet distortion than in a bore with an uneven number of grooves. The side of the bullet opposite the land is pressed against the bore creating better sealing and also less bullet distortion. Some long distance shooters swear by the 3-groove and 5-groove barrels because of this. A bullet that has been distorted less in the barrel flies more true with all other things being equal.

Re: Barrel Grooves

I don't have much long range experience yet but the idea of 3 grooves sounds better to me. It seems logical that a 3 groove would have less distortion and a little more speed due to less friction from less cutting into the bullet. I would think that would help accuracy as well.
