Like the link says, it may be "comparing apples to oranges" but one thing I've noticed is that my 5R seems to clean a lot easier than any square cut rifle I've owned.
regarding 3 groove...fewer groves means less stress applied to the bullet (more even stress placement), less fouling, added barrel life, more accurate...all theory to me, I've yet to see a scientific study on the subject.

When I was making rifle barrels for a living we had found that it wasn't so much the number of grooves or type of grooves, but more related to the groove to lands ratio. That is what controls the amount of friction between the barrel and the bullet.
I told a few of my customers at the time that a 5r theoretically will clean easier and they gave me grief about how the barrel from where I worked (standard 4 groove) cleaned a hell of a lot easier than their 5r.
In the end, regardless of the type of rifling, any of the major manufacturers out there will supply a great shooting barrel. The difference in them in the customer service and who will treat you better if you get a bad barrel(it happens regardless of the maker)
