I have been aquiring parts as they become available for a couple builds. I am getting the barrels from one of the big name cut-rifled makers. I have Surgeon actions, and am tempted to have the barrel maker install the barrels on the actions for me. For this part of it, am I as likely to end up with something as good as if I went to one of the well known smiths (ie GAP, Short Actions Customs, etc)? I live in WI and am close to the above mentioned barrel makers so that option is very convenient, but don't want to risk the end result. Thanks in advance.

Re: barrel installation

I know some of the barrel makers don't have an FFL license as they don't have the time to thread and chamber barrels for the most part, but I would assume if they did have an FFL they would be just as good as a gunsmith because I'm guessing they rebarrel all of their own guns.

Re: barrel installation

Do yourself a big favor an send it to shortactioncustoms.com....That way you won`t be asking yourself if it`s as good as it can be.Mark is a great smith period.Puts in long days in the shop.Which in turn gives the customer fast turn around times. He`s done 2 barrels for me an gett`n ready to do #3
