Looking at shooting a few matches this year. But due to a neck injury wanting to shoot my 243 due to recoil. Current setup is an AI AW with 26" barrel shooting 115 Bergers running titanium suppressor. Wanting to know thoughts on barrel length for tactical matches. Thinking it might be a little long for offhand and barricade stages. What's your opinion on short barrel 243's. Thanks for your input in advance.

Re: Barrel length for 243 in matches

I wouldn't go much shorter than 24" so you can make sure to get good velocity without having to push them super hot. My old .243 was 27" and my new one will be rebarreled with a 26" but I don't run a can on them. I have run a 9" SRT Shadow XL can on my 25" 300WM and didn't feel it was that bad. Here's a video

Re: Barrel length for 243 in matches

Never shot a .243 but I have been shooting matches for years with a 26" barrel and a 9+" suppressor. Length has not been an issue. Shorter would make it only slightly easier to maneuver. As for barrel length for .243 specifically... I will leave that someone with knowledge in that arena.

Good luck,
John
