I have a Remington 700 SPS Varment in .243 with a 1 in 9 & 1/8 twist 26" Barrel.
The barrel is just too long to carry around.
What barrel length is recomended in order to keep optimal powder burn for this rifle?
I'm not worried about loosing a little speed but I need something easier to move around with.
Thanks in advance - J.Solo

If it were mine, I'd cut it at 22". You won't lose enough velocity to matter and it would be a lot handier to carry. Slower powders (i.e. 4350) work well in the .243 and 22" would still give you a full burn.

I too have the same gun. I'll have to agree with the 22". I think that would be a good length. I load the 87 VLD to about 3250 so you should still be able to be above 3000 with the shorter length and lighter rig. Good luck.
