So what is the projected barrel life on high end barrels like Rock Creek, Noveske, ER Shaw, and others, for the AR platform in both 5.56 and 308. At what round count would you start to notice accuracy loss? This is for rifles used in precision shooting not comps like 3 gun or tac comps where your letting the barrel get hot.

Re: Barrel life on high end barrels.

It truly depends on the barrel and the way it gets shot. I have a flat top I use for shooting Prairie dogs (PD) and I have abused that tube. Accuracy is falling off. It has a little over 8,000 rds down range. Some of the guys I shot Service rifle comp have told me they have seen tubes go as soon as 2,000 rds and as high as 10,000.

If you blast long strings the tube will not last that long but if you shoot slower and keep the tube cool it will last much longer. It also depends on what type of accuracy you are looking for. I was reading on usrifleteams that one guy has something like 20,000 rds down the tube and it will still clean a reduced for 100yd target. Granted it will not hold paper at 600any more.
